API 570 Piping Inspections

API 570 is an American Petroleum Institute code — in particular, the Code for Inspection of In-Service Piping. API 570 is one of a number of National Codes that specify quality standards for API piping inspections.

As described in Appendix A to API 570 standards, qualification requirements for certification of an API 570 Piping Inspector are based on the combination of education and experience related to steel piping systems in operation. All Vector Tank Solutions API piping inspectors have completed an API 570 certification from the American Petroleum Institute, and also have extensive knowledge related to the maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of in-service steel piping systems, an understanding of the requirements of ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME B16.5, ASME Section IX for welder qualification, as well as API 1104 and API 1169.

Vector Tank Solutions is currently engaged in multiple long-term contracts for inspections and certifications to API 570. Our API 570 inspectors are equipped with the knowledge and equipment to conduct power piping, process piping and pipeline inspections. API 570 inspectors must remain actively engaged as an authorized piping inspector, wherein at least 20% of an inspector’s time is spent performing inspection activities, supervision of inspection activities, or engineering support of inspection activities.

As described in the API 570 Annex A, “recertification shall be required every three years. Once every other recertification period (every six years), inspectors actively engaged as an authorized piping inspector shall demonstrate knowledge of revisions to API 570 that were instituted during the previous six years. This requirement shall be effective six years from the inspector’s initial date of certification.” API 570 Inspector certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

All Vector Tank Solutions API 570 piping inspectors have further supplemented their API 570 certification with knowledge expected of an in-service inspector and have undertaken required continuing education. Vector Tank Solutions API 570 piping inspectors have experience working within a wide variety of environments, industries and facilities, on top of what was learned during the entire training process for the API 570 Piping Inspector course.
